When a bed has run its course
A landscape bed usually shows its age the same few ways: mulch worn down to bare dirt, shrubs that have grown into each other with no gap left between them, and edging that has disappeared under creeping turf. Most Fort Worth yards hit at least one of those signs a few years after the last real work went in.
None of that calls for tearing the bed out and starting over. A renovation, a round of pruning and a fresh layer of mulch is usually enough to reset it and carry it through another few seasons.
